Pearls
Pearls
are beautiful, round, precious gems that are formed by oysters to protect
them from the pain of an irritation, usually a grain of
sand. We are Pearls, each having dealt with our own form of
sand.
The greatest struggle
of my adult life has been to feel good about the way I look; to love, accept,
and admire my body the way it is, whether or not that shape and size reflects
my society's standards of beauty. One nice way to accomplish this is
to search out images that pay homage to the big, beautiful woman, respectfully
- not as a fetish, but as a standard of beauty in her own
right.
I love finding
non-pornographic, artistic images of beautiful women who aren't skinny, either.
I think it's telling that most of the portraits I find are from days
long past. I guess the saying is true: I should have been born several
hundred years ago - I would have been a Goddess!
I hope you enjoy these beautiful portraits as much as I do.
Jean-Lon Grome, "The Bath"
Titian, "Venus of Urbino"
"Ingres, "Turkish Bath"
Cabanel - "The Birth of Venus"
"Satyr and Nymphs"
And finally - what collection of paintings of large, lovely ladies would be complete without a painting by Rubens?
